The Master of Movement: The Ultimate Guide to Ido Portal (Everything You Wanted to Know About Your Favorite Paleolith!)

Have you heard of Ido Portal?

If you have, then I imagine you are in the process of drastically improving your fitness movement routine.

If you haven’t, then today is your lucky day.

Recently, I injured my wrist doing a combination of gymnastics and body weight focused exercises. I have been focusing on adding a few strength and conditioning exercises like handstands and planches to my routine and in the process I ended up hurting myself pretty bad.

As a result of my injury and going to the hospital for an X-ray, which lucky showed no signs of bone breakage, I started to research the cause of soreness in my right wrist.

During my search, I stumbled upon an amazing interview on a man named Ido Portal, an Israeli national. He is working towards spreading awareness on the power and potentials of the human body’s movement. He explores a wide variety of  training techniques: Brazilian capoeira (think Eddy Gordo from Tekken 3), gymnastics, yoga, and ballet.

Ido Portal is perhaps one of the biggest badasses that the yoga world has ever seen. His background started in mixed martial arts by studying Kung Fu. Eventually, his learning progressed into the study of Brazilian capoeira- a style of martial art that Ido Portal first brought to Israel. His love for fitness then spread to gymnastics, yoga, and some techniques from the Crossfit society.

Whatever you do, please  don’t put Ido Portal or his philosphy into a box.

Fitness is only a small part of his study. Movement is the bigger picture.

Pain is explored and experienced more than pleasure in his line of work.

His techniques are far from random and his style cannot fit into any specific category. He is absolutely clear that he enjoys studying movement as a whole. Unlike most people who focus on getting fit and looking good for pure physical reasons, Ido Portal is clear he is exploring, testing, and trialing the limits and capabilities of the human body. His goal is to master his body’s movements. He accomplishes this by training for up to ten hours a day testing his mind as much as his physical strength. Portal believes that pain is nothing more than a mental threshold that we must train ourselves to overcome.

Check this video out to find out more about Ido Portal. This is a slight introduction video that highlights on some of his techniques, his background, and his mission.

After watching the video above, feel free to read his short bio. This links to his new website where you can check out his movement culture, seminars, and his free workout videos.

For a more in-depth look at Ido’s past and his inspirations, Steve Atlas did a wonderful interview session with him in 2009, click here for the first video.

Note: The interview is a three part series.

Part 2 is here. This is my favorite video. Ido talks about patience, hard work, and concentration.

Part 3 is here. In this video, Ido discusses nutrition, the Paleo diet, and how he has been eating for the past ten years.

I highly recommend watching all three videos if you need some extra motivation.

His old blog can be found here. He discusses nutrition, various training methods and videos, floreio art, and some of his smaller projects. His last post shows him eating a high-protein Paleo snack. Warning: this is only for hardcore Paleoliths.

Ido Portal is the perfect role model for Peregrine Poise. He commits himself to complete self-dominance. He admits he is not special or unique. He searches for better balance in all area of his life. He embodies what the Human Potential represents.

I would like to welcome Ido Portal as the first member of The Human Potential Protocol. This will be on ongoing project devoted to recognizing, researching, and learning from the best humans in the world. I will introducing new members at random for you to explore and I may eventually turn this into something.

I really hope you enjoyed this post, as I enjoyed researching and writing it.

Keep up the hard work in whatever you are doing and until next time, MOVE!
